About Antuco Volcano National Park

Antuco Volcano National Park is located in the Bío Bío Region of southern Chile, encompassing the imposing Antuco stratovolcano and its surrounding natural landscapes. The park covers an area of densely forested valleys, alpine meadows, glacial lakes, and rugged volcanic terrain, sitting at the transition between the Andes and the Central Valley. It is distinguished by its volcanic features, including lava fields and craters, along with diverse ecosystems that harbor endemic flora and fauna typical of the region's temperate rainforests. Established to protect this fragile environment, the park offers numerous outdoor recreation opportunities such as hiking to the summit of the Antuco volcano for panoramic views, exploring trails leading to pristine lakes like Laguna Verde, camping in scenic settings, and observing native wildlife including pudú deer and Andean birds. The park has historical significance for local indigenous communities and continues to attract adventurers seeking both natural beauty and volcanic landscapes. Visitors are drawn by the combination of forested trails, snow-capped peaks in winter, and clear mountain lakes, making it a key destination within Chile’s system of protected areas with excellent opportunities for photography, climbing, and environmental education.
